Michelle Yeoh Will Star In Luc Besson’s DANS LA LUMIERE
Michelle Yeoh, best known for her roles in Tomorrow Never Dies, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will be taking a detour from action films. Yeoh is starring in a biopic of Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi. DANS LA LUMIERE (translated to INTO THE LIGHT) will be directed by French filmmaker Luc Besson.
Besson directed La Femme Nikita and The Fifth Element, but generally prefers to work as producer on films. In fact, he has only directed on film in the last three years – The Extraorinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec.
Yeoh met with Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma on Monday and the pair spent the afternoon and evening together. Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for most of the previous 21 years, after being arrested by the Burmese military. She was arrested in 1989 and spent 15 years under house arrest. in 1991, Aung San Suu Kyi wom the 1991 Nobel peace prize for her stance for democracy.
Nyan Win, the lawyer for Aung San Suu Kyi stated that his client and Yeoh Yeoh “had dinner together Monday night”. “I understand she is planning to play her in a film in the near future,” he added.
Thiland Film office director Wanasiri Morakul also stated that Yeoh and Besson had been shooting scenes in Thiland for Dans La Lumiere. “The film is about Aung San Suu Kyi. We approved it a long time ago and they have shot in several locations,” he said.
There is no release date set for the project.
