Colin Firth In Talks for GAMBIT
The British action comedy GAMBIT from 1966 will be getting a makeover! The Joel and Ethan Coen are ready to remake the film which initially starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLain. Colin Firth is in talks to star in the Michael Hoffman directed film.
Gambit is the story of a cat burglar attempting to rob a billionaire of a priceless statue. The burglar joins with a waitress that uncannily resembles the billionaire’s dead wife, and the partnership ends up causing damage to his usual precision. Firth is currently looking at an Oscar nomination for his role in Tom Hooper’s The King’s Speech.
The Coen brothers have just wrapped their writing and direction of a True Grit remake, which is more closely based on the novel than the first film.
Mike Lobell will produce Gambit, with Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, who will finance the project. The hope is to have Gambit shooting in London and Texas before summer.
