Jon Favreau Will Not Direct IRON MAN 3
The creative force behind Iron Man and Iron Man 2 Jon Favreau has left Marvel and will not direct IRON MAN 3. I’d like to call for a moment of silence while I compute this knowledge.
The Cowboys and Aliens director seems to have come to his end with Marvel, and is moving on to different projects. Aside from the highly anticipated Cowboys and Aliens, Favreau is signed with Disney to develop a film based on their theme parks titled Magic Kingdom.
Favreau confirmed the split in a tweet: “It’s true, I’m directing Magic Kingdom, not Iron Man 3. I’ve had a great run with Marvel and wish them the best.”
During negotiations with Marvel, who is notorious for attempting to keep costs as low as possible, Favreau almost didn’t direct Iron Man 2, but was eventually signed for $10 million. With Cowboys and Aliens, his asking salary has risen, and Marvel isn’t looking to pay.
In a recent interview Favreau talked briefly about Iron Man 3: “In theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers. That whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”
While the news isn’t surprising (no one expect Favreau to stick around forever) it’s still sad to see him go, and makes fans speculate who will helm Iron Man 3.
