Final Roles Cast in HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2
Some of the characters who will play vital roles in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, have now been cast, according to TheWrap.com . The production has finally wrapped after a recent round of reshoots pertaining to the franchise’s highly anticipated epilogue. Warner Bros. decided on the reshoots after fans complained that the stars’ makeup made them look too old. The characters are only supposed to be 35 at the end of the last novel.
Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) has been cast to play the ghostly Grey Lady, also known as Helena Ravenclaw, the late daughter of Hogwarts founder Rowena Ravenclaw. An important information keeper, the character previously appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, then played by actress Nina Young (Clash of the Titans).
14-year-old Benedict Clark has been cast as young Severus Snape. Which is great news for fans (like me) of the taciturn Potions Master as this probably means we’ll get to see Snape’s sad flashbacks in the final film. Alec Hopkins played young Snape in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but the character’s flashbacks take place ten years earlier, causing the need for a casting change.
13-year-old Bertie Gilbert will play Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, a character that figures into the finale at King’s Cross.
Warner Bros. will release Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on July 15, 2011. I expect to be part of the multitude who will go see it the moment it opens.
