John Goodman Cast in EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE
Joining an already splendid group of actors, John Goodman has also recently been added to the cast of EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE. According to MTV Movies Blog Goodman’s costars are newcomer (and Jeopardy! winner) Thomas Horn, who plays Oskar Schell, as well as Sandra Bullock and Tom Hanks, who play Oskar’s parents. Director Stephen Daldry is directing the film, and Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth penned the script.
The film is an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s post-September 11th novel and follows the story of 9-year-old Oskar after he finds a key in an envelope in his father’s closet. Oskar’s father died in the September 11th attacks, and the boy thinks that by finding the purpose of the key it will make his father’s death make more sense.
Goodman is set to play Stan the Doorman, a minor character who becomes swept up into Oskar’s adventures. Stan is best known for announcing to Oskar, “You’ve got mail!” in an AOL voice and helping the boy exhume his father’s coffin (don’t worry — that’s not a spoiler). Goodman recently wrapped Kevin Smith’s latest Red State and also appeared on HBO’s Treme.
Daldry is hoping to have the film ready for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks later this year.
