Gemma Arterton Snags Gretel In Paramount’s HANSEL & GRETEL
We all know the story of Hansel and Gretel, the siblings that were supposed to be dinner for a wicked witch. Well, Paramount is going to begin production on their live action version: HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS and have found their female lead in Gemma Arterton.
Arterton has previously been seen in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans. She was selected for Gretel from the likes of Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds), Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Eva Green (Casino Royale), and will star along side Jeremy Renner who has been attached to the project for a while.
Hansel & Gretel picks up years after Gretel kills the witch, and the experience has turned the pair into witch hunters. Paramount is attempting to rush this into production to beat out Fox’s adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter which follows president Lincoln attempting to keep vampires away from snacking on slaves.
Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola will helm Hansel & Gretel and shooting will begin in Berlin on March 7th.
