Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen Join Cast of THE HOBBIT
Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT is slowly becoming a reunion of his The Lord of the Rings cast! Following on the news of Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood reprising their Rings roles, Ian McKellen has signed on to return as the wizard Gandalf in the two part film.
McKellen played the wizard in all three Rings films, and The Hobbit is where Gandalf is introduced into the Middle Earth Story.
Andy Serkis has also closed his deal to return as Gollum, the keeper of the one ring before Bilbo Baggins gets his hands on it. Gollum was also first introduced in The Hobbit, when Bilbo accidentally falls into his lair and takes the ring from him; setting into motion Gollum’s quest to get it back.
Another Rings cast member, Orlando Bloom, has an offer to return as the elf Legolas, but no deal has officially yet been made.
As a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings films (and books), I’m really excited about the new cast.
The Hobbit begins shooting February 14th in New Zealand.
