DARK KNIGHT RISES Finds Catwoman in Anne Hathaway!
Stealing the lead female role in Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Anne Hathaway will step into the role of Catwoman, Warner Bros. announced this morning.
Hathway tested for the role recently with Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley. There are no details what direction Nolan will take the Catwoman character. In Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, Michelle Pfeiffer played the leather clad villain as more fun and sensual.
Nolan is looking at Batman: Year One by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli for inspiration, and they portray Catwoman as adominatrix-prostitute. I guess we’ll have to wait and see which way Nolan writes her!
In addition to Hathaway’s Catwoman news – the studio also released that Tom Hardy will play the villain Bane. Bane is a more recent villain (he was introduced in 1993), that has spent his entire life in prison. He eventually became a test subject for a drug to give him increased strength, but eventually became addicted to the drug.
The outcome was not that great for The Caped Crusader.
“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” Nolan said in a statement.
The Dark Knight Rises will begin shooting in London and Los Angeles in May, with a July 20th, 2012 release date.
