James Gray Will Direct THE GRAY MAN

James Gray, director of We Own the Night and Two Lovers is set to direct an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s novel THE GRAY MAN. The thriller tells the story of a former CIA member turned assassin. Attempting to find his way across Europe while dodging special forces teams, the life of his handler and of his handler’s family is on him.
What makes this film different from other assassin movies like The Bourne films? Well, Gray says that he’s shooting the film from the point of view of the assassin himself. Gray has used this style of shooting in We Own the Night, when Joaquin Phoenix watched from the back of a car as his father was shot.
He says: “It feels like a good way to sympathize with a professional hitman. You humanize him by never distancing yourself from his experience. This story has emotional stakes that enable me to do that.”
The Gray Man will be produced by Shine Pictures’ Paul Webster and Stephen Garrett with New Regency’s Navid McIlhargey.
