RED 2 In The Works

Ready for more RED? You better be! Heat Vision is reporting that Summit has issued the go-ahead for a sequel to the popular 2010 film. Although there has been no official greenlight on the project, the company has already hired brothers Erich and Jon Hoeber to pen a second installment. The Hoeber brothers, who wrote the first feature, have been busy working on Universal’s Battleship and Summit’s Man on a Ledge, which is currently filming in New York.

As of now, there are no deals with director Robert Schwentke or actors Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich, but given the film’s popularity, it’s not hard to believe that an announcement will come in the neat future. With a budget in the $60 million range, the first movie not only proved to having staying power (with its grosses hitting over $90 million) but was also nominated for best picture in the comedy/musical category at Sunday’s Golden Globe awards.

What do you think? Are you excited about a sequel, and do you want the stars to come back for a second round?

This was a wonderfully done film. It didn’t try to be more than it was and it was a striking success. I loved it and am looking forward to another romp through their lives.
