James Gandolfini Cast in David Chase’s TWYLIGHT ZONES

James Gandolfini

No, it’s not an actual Sopranos reunion – fans of the hit HBO mob drama are still cooling their heels on that front – but it’s what most could consider the next best thing. DeadlineTV reports that James Gandolfini has just signed on to co-star in David Chase’s new film, TWYLIGHT ZONES. Set in New Jersey and produced by Paramount, the film will reunite Gandolfini with his Sopranos creator.

Twylight Zones focuses on a New Jersey rock and roll band and the musical renaissance of the 1960s. Douglas (John Magaro) is a socially awkward teen who begins to shine as lead singer in his band, The Twylight Zones, while his father (Gandolfini), an Italian-American, condemns his son’s infatuation with rock music. Brad Garrett and Molly Price (who will play Douglas’ mom) will also star in the film.

The announcement of Gandolfini’s involvement in Twylight Zones can be added to his long list of films and projects the actor is currently guggling. He is also in final negotiations to join the cast of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (starring Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock) and Cogan’s Trade (starring Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell.) Additionally, Gandolfini is will reunite with the original cast of the Tony-winning play God of Carnage, as it begins a six-week run at Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles from April 5 through May 15.

Are you excited to see Gandolfini reunite with Chase? Dare we hope that this involvement might lead to a Sopranos movie not to far in the future?
