Cobie Smulders In The New AVENGERS?
Cobie Smulders, one of the stars of the television series How I Met Your Mother is now the front runner for a role in Joss Whedon’s THE AVENGERS. Deadline reports that Smulders was one of the actresses auditioning with Samuel L. Jackson for a female sidekick role. The role was unidentified at the time Jackson released this information in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, but we now know the role is Maria Hill, the executive director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Smulders audition against Jessica Lucas, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Morena Baccarin, and is now the front runner for the part. There are reports that a deal could be done this week.
In the comic books, Hill has no problem blackmailing the superheroes to fit her agenda; and ultimately steps down and gives her position to Tony Stark. Hill stays on as Stark’s deputy director. We’ll see how Whendon plays out her character!
The Avengers will be released on May 4, 2012, and is shaping up to be a great film – already set to appear are: Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and more.
As a complete geek, I cannot express how excited I am for The Avengers! Bring on May 4, 2012!
