Nick Pustay to Write FIRELIGHT Adaptation
Sophie Jordan’s young adult fantasy novel FIRELIGHT will be adapted for the big screen with Nick Pustay writing the screenplay. Mandalay Pictures optioned the book just weeks after its release last September.
Firelight, describes as a “Twilight with dragons,” focuses on Jacinda, a draki (dragon descendant who can shift into human form) who can breathe fire. Because of that ability, she is invaluable to her “pride,” and her marriage has been pre-ordained. Jacinda prefers to do things her own way, though, and when that gets risky, her mother decides the family must live among humans, where Jacinda falls for a dragon hunter.
Pustay is well-versed in bringing young adult fiction to the big screen. He worked on the adaptations of both Beverly Cleary’s “Ramona and Beezus” and Alice Hoffman’s “Aquamarine.” Most recently he was put in charge of adapting Maggie Stiefvater’s “Shiver.”
Cathy Schulman will produce Firelight with Mandalay’s Adam Stone overseeing.
