Release Date For Mel Gibson’s THE BEAVER Pushed Back

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment is pushing back the release date of Mel Gibson’s newest drama, THE BEAVER. The film, directed by Jodie Foster, was set to open in a limited run on March 23 with worldwide distribution on March 28. The new release date is now May 6.
As per the earlier plan, The Beaver will open as a limited release on the May 6 date, with a worldwide opening scheduled for May 20. In addition to Gibson, the cast includes Foster (who performs double duty as director and co-star) as well as Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence.
Foster is tied up with filming commitments for Roman Polanski’s God of Carnage in Paris until mid-March, therefore, pushing The Beaver’s release date will give her and the cast more time to promote it. Additionally, May is a high-profile month at the box office since it is the official start of the summer movie season – which could look good for Summit in terms of publicity.
The Beaver was originally set to open last year, but Summit smartly delayed its debut when news broke that controversial remarks made by Gibson were secretly recorded by his ex-girlfriend.
