13 REASONS WHY Acquired By Universal For Selena Gomez
Deadline.com is reporting that Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment have acquired 13 REASONS WHY as a star vehicle for singer/actress Selena Gomez. The film will be produced Eric Newman and Marc Abraham.
Jay Asher’s novel, about a California high school student who finds that he is left several cassette tapes from a classmate he had a crush on before she committed suicide, will be adapted for the big screen by Jennifer O’Kieffe. Gomez will play Hannah Baker, who sends her classmate the tapes with instructions to pass them on to other students. Each one details how they played a role in her death. The book was originally published in 2007 and became a quick bestseller among teens.
In addition to her starring role in the Disney Channel series The Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez frequently tours the country with her rock band Selena Gomez & The Scene. Her previous movie roles include Ramona & Beezus, Horton Hears A Who, and a starring turn in the Tom Bezucha-directed Monte Carlo.
