Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS New Release Date Announced
20th Century Fox has opted to give Ridley Scott’s upcoming PROMETHEUS a more desirable premiere than originally planned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, instead of opening on March 9, 2012, Prometheus now gets the much higher profile slot of June 8, 2012.
This move came after Disney played musical release dates with a couple of its films. Its live-action John Carter of Mars recently changed release dates from June 8, 2012 to March 9, 2012 after Disney pushed Tim Burton’s 3D stop-motion animated Frankenweenie to October 5, 2012.
Prometheus stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Sherlock Holmes) and Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds, 300) and while it was originally conceived as an Alien prequel, it has morphed into a sci-fi original. Damon Lindelof (Lost) is writing the new script with Scott, replacing one written by Jon Spaihts from an idea of Scott’s.
