Shane Black to Direct IRON MAN 3
Has Marvel studios found its next director for the IRON MAN franchise? Apparently so, since Deadline reports they are in final negotiations with Shane Black to helm Iron Man 3. Black will replace Jon Favreau who helmed the first two installments but left the franchise to direct Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
It’s not clear yet if Black will also write the screenplay, but given that he is mostly known as a writer, I wouldn’t be surprised. Black was one of the highest-paid action film writers in the late 1980s-1990s, penning such films as Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout.
Black made his directing debut with 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which starred Robert Downey, Jr., with whom he has had a long relationship. This will only be the second film he’s helmed.
Iron Man 3 is set for a May 3, 2013 release.
Do you think Black is a good choice to replace Favreau?
