Warner Bros. To Remake THE BODYGUARD
The word “reboot” seems to be what Hollywood is all about these days, and according to Deadline, Warner Bros. can add another movie to the list: THE BODYGUARD. Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner starred in the original 1992 hit, which became a hit where studio grosses were concerned, earning $411 million worldwide.
Casting has not yet been confirmed, but the film will use a script from Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer. The original film, which was directed by Mick Jackson, centered on a Secret Service agent (Costner) who is tasked to protect a star diva (Houston) from a threatening stalker and ends up falling in love with her. According to sources, the new version of the film will be a similar love story, but instead of a Secret Service agent, the bodyguard be a former Iraq war veteran. Additionally, the film will update itself to include the world of social networking, which makes access to celebrities easier – and more dangerous – than ever.
Do you think this remake will be a success? Or do you believe that there some things (and iconic movies) that would be better left alone?
