Viggo Mortensen To Play SUPERMAN Villain?
Among Viggo Mortensen’s many roles, he has played a Middle Earth ranger, a horse racer, and an everyday man-turned-killer. Now it’s looking like the actor may add one more role to his resume – comic book villain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen is being considered for the role of General Zod, the evil and powerful scientist, in Warner Bros.’ much anticipated SUPERMAN reboot.
There has been no formal announcement of casting for the film, aside from Brit Henry Cavill, who will play the legendary Man of Steel. But rumors are circulating that both Superman producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are zeroing in on Mortensen for the role. The actor remains in negotiations for Snow White and the Huntsman, and certainly, bypassing that role would free him up for Superman. Given the studio’s strong interest, however, it’s possible that a schedule could be worked out that would allow the actor to shoot both films if he so chooses.
Currently, Snyder is meeting with actors and actresses across the board to fill out the remaining roles of the film. Slated to start filming later this year, the Superman roles are considered some of the hottest in Hollywood. Mortensen’s next films include A Dangerous Method, in which he stars as Sigmud Freud against Michael Fassbender’s Carl Jung, and On The Road.
I’ve been a fan of Viggo for awhile, and am beyond excited that he is being considered for this role…and I believe with his acting abilities he could completely do it justice. Do you agree?
