Facebook Movies Rentals Coming Soon
With the ever growing popularity of Facebook, it was only a matter of time before a movie studio joined with the social network for video on demand.
According to CNet, Warner Bros. is the first to jump on this new feature through Facebook – offering Facebook users the ability to stream a movie through the film’s official fan page. Beginning today, fans of The Dark Knight will have the ability to use Facebook Credits to rent the film through its Facebook Page.
Facebook Credits are the currency that users spend on different Facebook games. Farmville, Mafia Wars, and now we can add movie rentals to the list! To rent The Dark Knight (which users will have access to for 48 hours after the purchase) it will cost you 30 Facebook Credits, or $3.
Thomas Gewecke, the president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution put out this statement: “Facebook has become a daily destination for hundreds of millions of people. Making our films available through Facebook is a natural extension of our digital distribution efforts.”
Features that come with streaming films through Facebook include the ability to pause and pick up where you left off in the movie at your own pace, and you’ll have the ability to posts comments while you’re watching your film.
