5 Movies With Really Cool Opening Scenes

Kelly Michele

Kelly has been a lover of movies since she was little. Although her movie tastes have changed a little since her younger days of Carebears and Mary Poppins, her love of film hasn't. She can generally be found watching any horror movie she can get her hands on, but will occasionally throw an indie film or documentary into the mix to shake things up. She speaks in movie quotes and uses film references in daily conversation; and she does all of this while attempting to change the world's negative opinion of fangirls.

Burton is a genius. The opening to Sweeney would defintely be on my list, but every movie he does is just so awesome.

Oh you picked some good ones Kelly! I only recently saw Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it’s definitely a great opening. Never saw Halloween, but it does sound like a great opening scene. I also LOVE Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Great list. Now if only I could come up with some additional ones 🙂

Yeah, this was hard for me! I wasn’t sure exactly what constituted an “opening scene”! If it was the credits, the first shot, etc… so I did both.

Rocky Horror is one of my FAVORITES. I just recently bought it on Blu-Ray. Halloween is a GREAT opening scene for the reasons I stated… it was always really eerie to watch. But I LOVE Halloween, so I’m probably biased.

How about the opening scene of the remake of Dawn of the Dead? That was amazing!

REALLY great list. When I saw the title the two that popped into my head were Sweeney Todd and Monsters, Inc.
