Popcornflix. com – A New Hulu Rival?
Launching a few days ago, PopcornFlix. com is a new movie streaming site that may turn out to be a new rival for Hula. The site isn’t big enough yet to concern Hulu, but it could grow rapidly, which may pose a problem for Hulu.
According to Media Bistro, PopcornFlix. com specializes in independently produced movies. Their catalog currently offers horror, comedies, romance, and even some foreign films. Currently the site only has about 100 films, but hopes to expand that number to 1,500 by the end of the year.
PopcornFlix. com is supported by advertisements, the same way that Hula runs. Advertisers can opt to have their ad played before the start of the consumer’s film, in a banner ad, or even as a commercial of sorts during the viewing. PopcornFlix. com will run an add approximately every 10 minutes, and with the average film being about an hour and a half, consumers will see nine ads during their film.
