Michael Shannon Lands Role of General Zod In SUPERMAN
The elusive search for Clark Kent’s villain is finally over. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced that actor Michael Shannon will play the role of General Zod in Zach Snyder’s highly anticipated SUPERMAN reboot.
A number of high-profile Hollywood names, including Viggo Mortensen, had been thrown around as rumors swirled of who would ultimately be cast. But Shannon eventually won out, with director Snyder commenting that “Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
Shannon, who was honored with an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road, was most recently seen in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. He will face off against Cavill’s Superman in the film, which is scheduled to hit theatres in in 2012. The movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
