Netflix = Death Of BitTorrent?
According to Torrent Freak, there is a strong possibility that Netflix might be putting a dent into bitTorrent file-sharing* as it begins to offer a more convenient access to higher quality entertainment that torrent sites can offer.
They base this assumption on anecdotal evidence that show a decrease in absolute US downloaders. They also caveat their statements by insisting that more thorough investigation is needed before concluding to the death of BitTorrent.
While it is still too early for movie studios and network TV to scream victory just yet, it is undeniable that countless users have been seduced by the ease of use, affordability and selection breath that such services like Netflix, Hulu and others have been providing.
Personal Take: Nobody wants to break the law if they don’t need to. Ultimately, the day Netflix or any other streaming service can offer a similar or superior service to BitTorrent, we are likely to see a surge of users switching to legal services instead of risking fines and/or jail to get the latest Batman.
