Eddie Redmayne Cast As Marius In LES MISERABLES
A few weeks ago it was announced that Anne Hathaway had joined the LES MISERABLES cast as Fantine, one of the most unfortunate characters in the musical. Now Deadline reports that Eddie Redmayne, fresh off of My Week With Marilyn, is now set to play Maruis – the French colligate that is in love with Cossette.
Redmayne, who made his debut in The Good Shepherd, has Oscar buzz for his role in My Week With Marilyn and he’s already won a Tony Award for Red. He’s currently preparing to star in Richard II.
Universal has set Les Mis with a release date of December 7, 2012 – right in the middle of next year’s Oscar race. With Hugh Jackman staring as Jean Valjean and Ruseel Crowe as Inspector Javert, it seems like Les Mis may have a chance for a nomination! Cameron Mackintosh will produce the musical along with Working Title’s Debra Hayward, Eric Fellner, and Tim Bevan. Les Miserables is written by William Nicholson with music by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil. It is based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
