Billy Connolly Joins “The Hobbit” Cast!
It took me a second before jumping on board with this casting choice, but thinking about it now, I couldn’t agree more. According to Entertainment Weekly, Scottish actor Billy Connolly has been cast in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again as Middle Earth dwarf Dian Ironfoot.
Could there be a better choice for this? Connolly signing on as Ironfoot completes the cast for the Lord of the Rings prequel, which has been filming in New Zealand for a few months already. The first installment is set to hit theaters on December 14th.
In The Hobbit stories, Ironfoot is the cousin of Thorin Oakensield (played by Richard Armitage), and steps in to lead Bilbo (Martin Freeman) on his journey to the dragon Smaug.
“We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself,” director Peter Jackson said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see him on the Battlefield.”
