Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux To Lead Europe’s “Beauty and the Beast”
Beauty and the Beast, one of the biggest films to be announced in Europe this year, has cast its leads. Variety announced that Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Lea Seydoux (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Midnight in Paris) are all set to star in this family film.
Silent Hill director Christophe Gans has written the screen play for Beauty and the Beast and will direct the film as well. The screenplay is based on one of the earliest publications of the fairy tale, and features a Beast that is a bit more savage then audiences are used to.
The French language film will work with a budget of $43.2 million, and will be produced by Eskwad and Gallic studio Pathe. Pathe will distribute to France and the U.K.
Gans told Variety: “It talks, among other things, about the power of dreams and love versus materialism and corruption, which makes it more than ever relevant today.”
Principle photography is set to begin on October 8th.
