Guillermo del Toro Will Direct “Beast” For Warner Bros.
Continuing in the trend of fairy tale to live action films that are growing in popularity, Guillermo del Toro has signed on with Warner Bros. to direct Beast, a period piece based on the classic story of Beauty and the Beast, as reported by Variety.
The director is currently filming Pacific Rim for WB and Legendary pictures and is credited as co-writer for both upcoming Hobbit movies for WB.
Penning the script to Beast will be Andrew Davies, writer of Bridget Jones’s Diary. Del Toro, Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan will produce.
Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame is in final negotiations to play the lead in Beast. Watson can be recently seen in My Week With Marilyn and the soon to be released The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
It’ll be interesting to see Watson step into a leading lady role, and who better to play the part of “Beauty”?
