Russell Crowe Signed To Play Noah In Darren Aronofsky Film
Paramount Pictures and New Regency Productions announced that Russell Crowe will play Noah in director Darren Aronofsky’s (also an Academy Award-winner) film of the same name. Aronofsky stated: “I’d like to thank Paramount and Regency for backing my team’s work to breathe new life into the biblical epic. I rejoice that Russell Crowe will be by my side on this adventure. It’s his immense talent that helps me to sleep at night. I look forward to being wowed by him every day.”
Best known for his work in Gladiator which earned him the Best Actor Academy Award, Crowe has also starred in the John F. Nash biopic A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander: The far Side of the World, and Cinderella Man. Crowe will now step into the shoes of Noah, the hero of the bible story, Noah’s Ark.
Noah will be an adaptation of the biblical tale; in a world where human sin is running rampant, Noah is giving divine instructions to build an Ark to save the world from an upcoming flood.
Noah is written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, with revisions by John Logan (Gladiator, Hugo). Producing Noah is Scott Franklin and Aronofsky for Protoza Pictures with Mary Parent of Disruption Entertainment. Executive producers are Ari Handel (Black Swan), Arnon Milchan, and Chris Brigham.
Shooting for Noah begins in Iceland and New York this July. Paramount will release the film on March 28, 2014.
