The Cast of ‘Total Recall’ Tell Comic-Con What to Expect of the Remake
Few sci-fi films have entered the collective pop culture consciousness like Total Recall. That might have a lot to do with the chick with three breasts, though. Regardless, over two decades after the original Arnold Schwartzenegger vechicle, a remake starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston is ready to warp reality for a whole new generation. Film Equals was at Comic-Con to hear all about this reimagined dystopian society.
Kate Beckinsale is no stranger to action movies, but in the Underworld series, she is considered to be one of the “good guys.” The same will not be true of her character in this movie, as she steps into the role of the villain, relentlessly hunting down Colin Farrell, who believes she used to be his wife in his old reality. “Its nice to be able to open up the crazy a little bit,” Beckinsale joked, although she wondered at her husband (Weisman’s) choice to cast her as a crazy wife.
Playin Farrell’s love interest is Jessica Biel. She had to do a lot of training to get ready for the grueling shoot. She broke it down quite simply. “Martial arts, parkour, boxing, boxing, boxing, boxing…chicken.”
Meanwhile, Farrell had the difficult task of not only taking Schwartzenegger’s iconic role and making it into his own character, but playing a man who has absolutely no idea who he is. Farrell joked that he’s in that same boat, not knowing exactly who he is, but enjoyed the challenge.
Anyone expecting this movie to be a straight remake will be disappointed. With the exception of old Three Boobs, there are a lot of changes in this new film, including the setting. Director Les Weisman really wanted to put a fresh spin on the story. Certainly that’s better than simply taking the old movie and adding CGI.
Total Recall hits theatres on August 3rd, 2012
