Ryan Gosling To Direct ‘How To Catch A Monster’
After racking up some impressive screen time in back to back projects like ‘Drive’, ‘The Ides of March’, and ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, Ryan Gosling has decided to take on a new role as director of How to Catch a Monster.
In his debut the Canadian actor will team up with Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, producer Marc Platt, Adam Siegel of Marc Platt Productions and Michel Litvak from Bold Films to bring the sci-fi fantasy to theaters.
“I am very appreciative to Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Bold Films for being so supportive, and I look forward to making this film with all of them,” Gosling said of the project. With Litvak sharing, “We have a tremendous amount of trust and confidence in Ryan, Christina, Marc and Adam, both personally and professionally. We responded immediately to Ryan’s script and look forward to nurturing the next phase of his career and continuing Bold’s commitment to an artistically collaborative environment.”
The picture will be reportedly shopped to foreign buyers at this year’s Toronto Film Festival per The Hollywood Reporter. ‘How to Catch a Monster’ tells the tale of a single mom played by Hendricks and her two sons who live in a vanishing city. The actress’ character Billy will be pulled into the unknown world while her sons find a road that leads to an underwater land.
Principal photography is scheduled to take place in the spring. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales. Gosling, who wrote the script for the movie, brings with him credits that include ‘Lars and the Real Girl’, ‘The Notebook’, ‘Blue Valentine’, and ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’.
