The Inbetweeners Movie Review – Pure Fun!
The Inbetweeners Movie is a movie spinoff of the popular comedy UK series The Inbetweeners which follows the exploits of four adolescent friends, who aren’t really the most popular at school, as they try to navigate through life, beer, sex and women. Fans of the series will be familiar with our four protagonists and know exactly what kind of antics to expect from them. As for audiences new to the show, the good news is that no prior knowledge is required to enjoy the movie.
So where does The Inbetweeners Movie take our four lads? On holiday in Greece!
After graduating, Will McKenzie (Simon Bird), Jay Cartwright (James Buckley), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas) and Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) decided to take a two-week getaway to a notorious international hotspot on the isle of Crete for some legendary partying. Unfortunately, things don’t turn out exactly as they expected starting with their rundown hotel. But that won’t stop our quartet from hitting the resort’s infamous club strip and trying to meet some hotties and have fun.
Before I tell you more about the movie though, I do want to share the perfect description of the boys for people new to these characters from the official synopsis:
Clueless intellectual Will, love-struck puppy Simon, chronic masturbator Jay and dimwitted cougar-bait Neil go on “Pussay Patrol” hoping to find high times and, more importantly, wild sex in one of Europe’s craziest vacation spots.
This describes The Inbetweeners perfectly, so if that turned you off, the movie is probably not for you. For everyone else, I would say that The Inbetweeners Movie is pure fun. Actually, it’s too bad that the movie wasn’t released during the summer because it would have definitely put you in the mood for some summer partying.
I am familiar with the original series (I have seen a few seasons of it) and was very pleasantly surprised at how well writer/director Iain Morris (who also created the series along with Damon Beesley) was able to make the movie feel like a continuation of the series, while at the same time allowing newcomers to jump on the train without any prior knowledge.
But more than that, The Inbetweeners characters are just so unique and entertaining that you’ll be rooting for them while at the same time shaking your head at some of the idiotic things they do. And that’s what makes them so endearing.
If you are in the mood for something cheerful and diverting, The Inbetweeners Movie will give you just that. Plus if you miss summer vacation already, it might just put a smile on your face.
The Inbetweeners Movie is out in limited theaters now. But until you get to see it, you can check out the red band trailer below as well as some more photos.
