Cate Blanchett In Talks For Disney’s ‘Cinderella’
Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is currently in talks with movie heads at Disney to take on the role of Cinderella’s evil step-mother in the studio’s upcoming live action take on the classic fairytale. Per word at Deadline, if Blanchett accepts she would portray the villainous Lady Tremaine under the direction of Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go).
Cinderella comes from story developer Aline Brosh McKenna, script writer Chris Weitz and producer Simon Kinberg. Additonal casting should be on the way. If she does ink a deal to appear, Blanchett would be the first performer to join the cast line-up.
Taking on a new role would be a juggling act for Blanchett who is currently attached to several new film roles. The actress just finished up on the first installment of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ in her role as Galadriel, not to mention the additional 2 installments of the epic franchise. She is also part of the 2013 picture ‘Knight of Cups’, a yet to be titled Woody Allen project, as well as the Terrence Malick project, ‘Carol’, 2014’s ‘Skinny and Cat’ and ‘The Monuments Men’.
