Disney Hires Writer to Pen Sequel for Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’
Of all the sequel announcements that could have come our way this Monday, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland wasn’t the one we would have picked. But Disney stalwart Linda Woolverton (‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘Maleficent’) has been hired to pen the script for a follow-up.
The 2010 hit (commercially, anyway) scored a massive $1 billion worldwide, as well as bagging Oscars for art direction and costume design. It was critically mauled, however, and will have to deliver a cracker to change the minds of those many cynics.
Like the upcoming ‘Sleeping Beauty’ re-imagining, ‘Maleficent’ and this year’s ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, the film series has so far adapted the Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking-Glass’ to suit modern issues and feminist ideas.
Details of the planned sequel are being kept under wraps, but expect more news soon.
