Ricky Gervais Could Take The Lead In ‘The Muppets’ Sequel
Comedic actor Ricky Gervais is currently in talks with Disney to take on the lead role in The Muppets sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Details surrounding Gervais’ possible role are currently being kept under wraps, along with the movie’s plot.
Gervais did initially appear in the first film until movie heads ultimately decided to take his appearance out of the film. If the funnyman does sign on he would co-star alongside Ty Burrell (Modern Family) who has been cast as an Interpol inspector. The return of ‘The Muppets’ will also feature one other human character that has yet to be cast.
The sequel, set to begin filming in January, will be directed by James Bobin who helmed the first Muppets installment. Bobin also co-wrote the script with Nicholas Stoller. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will return as well to produce.
Ricky Gervais is best known for his recent role in the film ‘The Invention of Lying’. He has also starred in both the UK and the US version of ‘The Office’, ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’, ‘Life’s Too Short’, ‘Extras’, the TV series ‘Stromberg’, both installments of ‘Ricky Gervais: Out of England – The Stand-Up Special’, ‘Meet Ricky Gervais’, ‘Bruiser’ and ‘The Jim Tavaré Show’.
What do you think Muppet fans? Will Gervais prove just as successful as Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) with the furry little creatures?
