‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ Star Quvenzhane Wallis Cast in New ‘Annie’ Adaptation
She may have lost out on the best actress award at last weekend’s Oscars, but we have a feeling that young star Quvenzhane Wallis will have plenty of chances to impress the academy in her future. The nine-year-old actress has just been cast in Will Gluck’s Annie as the titular heroine.
The film is being produced by Gluck, James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith along with Jay-Z, Jay Brown and Tyran ‘Ty Ty’ Smith. The central role was originally meant to go to Willow Smith but the long development period means that she has since outgrown the part.
The new film adaptation of the famous musical was written by Emma Thompson before being re-written by Aline Brosh McKenna. Wallis is definitely one to watch closely, with ‘Annie’ due to hit theaters in the 2014 holiday season.
