Sam Mendes Exits Bond Franchise After ‘Skyfall’
After directing one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, not many directors would up and leave a franchise like James Bond. But that’s what Sam Mendes has done, announcing his exit from the British series after helming just one film.
He said: “It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie. Directing ‘Skyfall’ was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theater and other commitments including productions of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘King Lear’, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.”
John Logan, however, is returning as writer, and will pen the next two Bond movies. Not much is known about what could be planned, but we can expect rumors to start circulating soon.
