Theo James Wins Rose in Futuristic Action Adventure ‘Divergent’
It has been announced today to eagerly awaiting fans of Divergent, based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling novel, that British actor Theo James (‘Bedlam’; ‘Downton Abbey’) has been cast as Four in the upcoming movie adaptation.
He joins ‘Descendants’ star Shailene Woodley on the film, which takes place in a futuristic world where people are divided into factions based on their personalities. Woodley’s character, however, is told that she is divergent and will not fit into any of the categories. James will play her “intense yet charismatic” instructor.
The film is set to be directed by ‘Limitless’ helmer Neil Burger from a script by Vanessa Taylor, with Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher producing via Red Wagon Entertainment. In a statement, Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger of Lionsgate said of the new addition:
“Theo is not only an incredibly talented actor, he is also who we envisioned as Four when reading Veronica’s novel which has taken the world by storm. As we continue to develop the film, the studio remains committed to providing fans with a movie adaptation that stays as true to the book as possible and we are confident that we have done so with our selection of Shailene and Theo in the leading roles.
‘Divergent’ is due in theaters on March 21st 2014.
