From Department Store to Movie Theater: How to See ‘Man of Steel’ One Day Early
It was only a matter of time before this happened. And like the recent trend to use Kickstarter to gain financial backing, this will likely be the start of a new fad.
Money has, and always will be, a driving force. It’s why sequels get made. It’s why remakes get made. With Kickstarter, it’s a way to get more of the consumer’s money. Studios don’t have to shell out the money if fans will, right?
Now Man of Steel is taking a new approach. Partnering with a major retail store – Walmart – to provide day-early screenings. Price will presumably be the same, but the idea is people will buy more at Walmart, providing a bigger cut for both the giant retail store and Man of Steel. For fans anticipating the new Superman film (starring Henry Cavill and directed by Zack Synder), this is an exciting opportunity. However, some are scared this could lead to exclusive rights in exclusive locations.
For now, Man of Steel fans, mark your calendars. On May 18, you can purchase tickets for a June 13 screening at your local Walmart. Everyone else will wait until June 14, 2013 to see it.
