Superman Returns with Already-in-the-Works ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel
In a move that shouldn’t surprise anybody, a Man of Steel sequel is already in the works! Even though the film doesn’t land in theaters until tomorrow (in select theaters) and Thursday (for the rest), it appears Zack Snyder (director) and David Goyer (writer) will return in their respective roles.
Although its not confirmed, Henry Cavill is a shoe-in to reprise his Superman role. Likewise, I’d venture to guess Lois Lane (played by Amy Adams) will return. For those interested, you can check out our continuing Man of Steel coverage here.
This all points to D.C.’s answer to Marvel’s The Avengers. In constant competition, D.C. is behind the 8-ball when it comes to combining their properties. People can (and have) pointed to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy as part of the delay. That iconic franchise didn’t really fit into the proposed Justice League universe. Therefore, D.C. had to wait out the franchise.
Nolan seems to be the wildcard in the whole situation. Acting as a producer in Man of Steel, he has influenced the picture quite a bit. Some fans feel like he should take control of the Justice League film when the time comes. However, others (and I think I find myself in this camp) want to see his Batman movies stand alone. Perhaps he should exit the situation altogether.
Almost a year removed from The Dark Knight Rises, it appears this sequel news could be the official start of the Justice League with Goyer moving forward as the screenwriter. How will the other characters fit in?
That’s the million (or billion) dollar question.
