Shailene Woodley Cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and Possibly the Franchise
Usually I don’t like to report on what I call “negative” news. Therefore, I’m usually reporting on when people join a movie, not when they leave it. However, pretty significant news broke yesterday involving Mary Jane’s character in the upcoming Spider-Man movies.
Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) had been on set filming her small role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was planned to be expanded in the subsequent movies. However, word came out that her scenes from the 2nd movie were being cut altogether.
This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing if she was still being used in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case because it looks like they’ll recast her character. As a Woodley fan (her work in the upcoming The Spectacular Now is amazing), I am disappointed in this revelation. In terms of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I don’t think this should influence its quality too much…so that’s some good news.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed by Marc Webb, will release May 2, 2014. Who would you rather see as Mary Jane?
