Poster Mania: Enders Game, Pacific Rim, The Wolverine, Riddick, Only God Forgives, Don Jon, Afternoon Delight, & Therese
In this week’s incarnation of Poster Mania, I’ll be reporting on the following eight films: Enders Game, Pacific Rim, The Wolverine, Riddick, Only God Forgives, Don Jon, Afternoon Delight, and Therese.
Check back tomorrow for Photo Mania and News Round-Up, with Clip Mania coming on Friday.
Starting with the anticipated release of Enders Game, an adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s novel, Gavin Hood’s (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) film and Summit have released three propaganda posters. They have a Hunger Games-like vibe but a lot more science-fiction-y. Starring Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford, Ender’s Game hits theaters November 1.
If you couldn’t tell by now…I’m really, really excited for Pacific Rim. Guillermo del Toro’s next film, which releases July 12, should be quite the action film. The robots/monsters blockbuster released two more posters above, each showing either a robot or monster. (Source: Facebook)
Two different places released two different types of posters for The Wolverine. James Mangold’s (3:10 to Yuma) next X-Men movie lands later this month (July 26) as it’ll try to win the superhero summer movie war. The posters are certainly cool (in my opinion) as they are a little less traditional. Check out all of them at the very bottom. (Sources: Comic Book Movie, Collider)
Vin Diesel’s Riddick, which is going to this year’s Comic-Con, also unveiled a poster. The third movie in the franchise, which will be directed by David Twohy, comes out September 6. The poster looks like a typical Riddick poster, but it’s still interesting nonetheless. (Source: Collider)
The uber-violent follow-up to Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive, Only God Forgives unveiled another Ryan Gosling poster. The divisive film lands in theaters in two weeks (July 19) and also stars Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient). (Source: Collider)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, titled Don Jon, lands in theaters September 27. The comedy stars Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson. The adjective-laden poster describes both the movie and Gordon-Levitt’s character. It doesn’t seem like the lovable JGL…but that’s what makes it fun! (Source: Collider)
Jill Soloway’s comedy Afternoon Delight released a neon teaser poster alongside a new trailer. It recently got an August 30th limited release date. I’ve actually seen the movie and it’s a tough one to categorize. It’s certainly funny, but it gets pretty dark and dramatic near the end. You wouldn’t know any of this by just looking at the poster (although you would know the movie involves a stripper). The sex comedy, directed by Jill Soloway (Showtime’s United States of Tara), stars Juno Temple (Killer Joe) and Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers).
Finally, a poster for Therese landed online. The movie comes to limited theaters August 23 and stars Audrey Tautou. The period drama is about a woman in a “suffocating” marriage so it’s another one of those films…
That does it for this week. Check back at the same time next week for the next batch of posters!
