Poster Mania: Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Kick-Ass 2, 300: Rise of an Empire, Frozen, Seventh Son, Transcendence, & I, Frankenstein
Following yesterday’s Trailer Round-Up, I’ve got the latest Poster Mania for Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Kick-Ass 2, 300: Rise of an Empire, Frozen, Seventh Son, Transcendence, and I, Frankenstein. In most cases, they are films (Thor, Captain America, 300: Rise of an Empire, Seventh Son, and I, Frankenstein) touting the film’s appearance at this week’s Comic-Con in San Diego (which, not to brag, I’ll be attending).
Have a great Tuesday folks…
Marvel unveiled posters for their Comic-Con panel which involves their two biggest upcoming movies. Both Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are going to be huge draws at the Con and in theaters. Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, is directed by Alan Taylor (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and releases November 8th. Captain America, starring Chris Evans, is directed by the Russo Brothers (You, Me, and Dupree) and won’t release until April 4, 2014. (Source: Marvel)
Also at Comic-Con will be Kick-Ass 2, the upcoming sequel to the surprise hit Kick-Ass. The comic book movie focuses on a disjointed group of young superheroes led by actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo). Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) also adds Jim Carrey and releases August 16. (Source: Collider)
Disney’s Frozen will not make it to San Diego this week (although Disney will have a booth I’m sure), but they still released character stills for their musical-fantasy based on Snow White. I consider them character posters nonetheless. Voice starring (among others) Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Idina Menzel (FOX’s Glee), Frozen releases November 27. (Source: Yahoo!)
However, 300: Rise of an Empire will make it to sunny San Diego as part of Warner Brothers’ panel. After being pushed back from a 2013 release date, the 300 sequel is slated for a March 7, 2014 release date. The prequel/side-quel (if you will) stars Sullivan Stapleton (Gangster Squad) and Eva Green (Dark Shadows) and is directed by Noam Murro. Two posters were released before this weekend. Alongside yesterday’s trailer, I’ve got three new character posters for next year’s fantasy Seventh Son, which will also be a part of Warner Brother’s Comic-Con panel. The posters neglect stars Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore (Children of Men), but show Kit Harington (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond), and Alicia Vikander (Anna Karenina). You can see this movie January 17, 2014. (Source: Facebook)
Wally Pfister’s directorial debut Transcendence holds a special place in my heart. As Christopher Nolan’s primary cinematographer, Pfister is finally getting full reign of his own film. The cast has rounded out nicely, including names like Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall (The Town), and Morgan Freeman. A Japanese poster surfaced this week and hopefully we’ll get some footage soon. The sci-fi thriller hits theaters April 18, 2014. (Source: The Film Stage)
Speaking of Christopher Nolan, the Harvey Dent actor Aaron Eckhart’s I, Frankenstein released three posters as well. The horror/thriller, directed by Stuart Beattie (G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra), will be part of Lionsgate’s Comic-Con panel alongside The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Audiences can see the film, which also stars Yvonne Strahovski (NBC’s Chuck), on January 24, 2014.
Alright folks that does it. Check back tomorrow for the newest photos and Thursday for the latest breaking news. Also, keep an eye out for our Comic-Con coverage later this week and weekend!
