Europa Report Panel [Comic-Con 2013]
Being the only film I’ve actually seen before Comic-Con started, I was very excited to catch the panel for Sebastián Cordero’s Europa Report. It’s available on Video On Demand now (and hits conventional theaters August 2nd) and I can tell you it’s worth the price. The sci-fi movie doesn’t feel like most space movies because it takes place primarily in the cockpit of a space shuttle en route to Europa, one of Jupitar’s moons.
They also showed the film’s theatrical trailer and three clips. Two of the clips came directly from the movie, while the other one was an informative clip about the real Europa.
As for the movie clips, one of them showed a space probe about to land on Europa. The other one (the longer one) showed actress Karolina Wydra (on the panel as well) as she did a space walk on the surface of Europa. Unfortunately, both clips don’t capture the parts of the film I really liked, but I understand since those would be very spoiler-y.
At the panel, they also spent time talking about the film production, including the 8 cameras fitted to the set. They also talked with composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Gallactica) about how his score contributed to the film.
In all, Europa Report is certainly a movie most people haven’t heard of coming into this panel (or reading this post). I hope the panel urged people to see the movie as it is a very scientifically-true (or at least from my knowledge) movie.
You can watch the movie via iTunes now or wait until its theatrical release August 2.
