Photo Mania: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Saving Mr. Banks, Kick-Ass 2, Gravity, Out of the Furnace, Edge of Tomorrow, & The Gunman
In what could be the most star-studded Photo Mania yet, I’ve got the latest and greatest from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Saving Mr. Banks, Kick-Ass 2, Gravity, Out of the Furnace, Edge of Tomorrow, and The Gunman. Be sure you check out the newest trailers and posters from this week.
Two photos for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire landed online recently. Returning Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, the dystopia film, based on Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, releases in (most) all theaters November 22. One picture (via Yahoo!) shows the defiant Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Hutcherson) alongside Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks). The other shows a shirtless Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman) as the pivotal Finnick. Francis Lawrence will take over the helm of the franchise for Catching Fire.
In Entertainment Weekly’s Comic-Con Preview, they featured new images for next year’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The movie (and the photos) star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx, and Paul Giamatti. It’ll release wide May 2, 2014 and is again directed by Marc Webb. (Source: Flicks and Bits)
After releasing footage at their “surprise” Comic-Con panel on Saturday, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes released a photo of Caesar (Andy Serkis). Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is in charge of the film that will release July 18, 2014. It also stars Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Keri Russell. (Source: Total Film)
A first look at Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson came alongside the newest trailer for Saving Mr. Banks. The movie is about the production of Marry Poppins with Hanks playing the famous Walt Disney himself. Directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), the movie should make it to theaters December 13.
Another comic book-inspired film, Kick-Ass 2, unveiled a new photo as well. It features an interesting looking Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad). Kick-Ass 2, which releases August 16, also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy) and Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo). Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) is the director. (Source: Collider)
Warner Brothers’ Gravity, directed by one of my favorites (Alfonso Cuarón), released another photo (similar to two weeks ago). Starring just Sandra Bullock and George Clooney (both in the picture), the space thriller finally (after being delayed from last year) releases October 4. (Source: The Film Stage)
If it seems like I’ve been reporting a lot about Out of the Furnace lately, it’s because I have. Scott Cooper’s (Crazy Heart) thriller starring Christian Bale and Casey Affleck as brothers releases limitedly on November 27 (wide on December 6). There are a total of five new images to check out.
The recently re-titled sci-fi movie Edge of Tomorrow (previously named All You Need Is Kill) released a photo with the re-title news. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt (Looper) serve as stars for Doug Liman’s (The Bourne Identity) next project. It unfortunately won’t hit theaters until June 6, 2014, but a first look is now available. Javier Bardem and Sean Penn’s film The Gunman, set to release next year sometime, got its first look as well. Pierre Morel (Taken) is the director and has assembled a great cast with Bardem, Penn, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, and more. It does sound a little like Taken, in that the main character (Penn) must run across Europe. Check out the photo above. (Source: Collider)
That about does it for now. Check back tomorrow the next News Round-Up. Oh and check out our Comic-Con coverage from last weekend.
