Trailer Round-Up: Romeo and Juliet, Snowpiercer, 47 Ronin, Cold Comes the Night, A Single Shot, & Bad Milo
In an unusually slow week in trailers, I’ll be attaching the newest trailers for Romeo and Juliet, Snowpiercer, 47 Ronin, Cold Comes the Night, A Single Shot, and Bad Milo. Be sure to scroll for the embedded trailers.
In yet another version of Romeo and Juliet, we’ll get to see the tragic story of the “star-crossed lovers.” Based on William Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, Carlo Carlei directs Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), Douglas Booth (BBC Two’s Worried About the Boy), Damian Lewis (Showtime’s Homeland), and Paul Giamatti (The Illusionist). The music (by Florence and The Machine I’m pretty sure) is the best part of the first trailer. We’ll see if the movie can compare to the story we all know.
Bong Joon-ho’s (Mother) thriller Snowpiercer is still without a U.S. release date, but that didn’t stop it from releasing a short teaser-like trailer. The trailer shows off Chris Evans not looking like Chris Evans (he looks like a mixture between Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman to me). It doesn’t give much away about plot, but I’m here to tell you the movie is about a train full of people who survived a botched global warming experiment. Once on the train, the lower class starts to revolt against the upper class.
The revenge fantasy/action movie 47 Ronin released a trailer as well. Directed by Carl Erik Rinsch and starring Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), the movie will land in theaters Christmas Day. It’s got about everything you expect – samurais, dragons, and a long-haired Reeves. Not sure how the movie will play out, but if you’re interested in the story of 47 Ronin out for vengeance, check out the trailer.
Tze Chun’s (Children of Invention) thriller Cold Comes the Night, starring Bryan Cranston, debuted a new trailer. The thriller appears to be about a troubled man (Cranston) that is trying to protect his daughter (Alice Eve). After the trailer was released last week, Sony acquired the rights to the film. Therefore, you can expect a release date soon.
An interesting trailer for Tribeca’s A Single Shot landed online recently. The theme for this week appears to be men in beards because Sam Rockwell (Seven Psychopaths) is the newest sporting a beard. Set in wilderness, the film adaptation of Matthew F. Jones’ novel is directed by David M. Rosenthal (Janie Jones) and will release in limited theaters September 20th.
The quick trailer (it’s more like a TV spot) for Bad Milo was released by Magnolia. It’s an off-putting trailer about a man with obvious stomach problems. Digging deeper into the synopsis, I found out it’s a horror-comedy about a demon in a man’s intestines. Ken Marino (Starz’s Party Down) headlines the film, but I’m not entirely sure that can save it. It’ll be available On Demand August 29 before it lands in theaters October 4th.
