Photo Mania: We’re the Millers, Kick-Ass 2, The Counselor, & More
After an underwhelming Trailer Round-Up and Poster Mania, the entertainment industry has outdone itself with a killer week in new photos. Today, you’ll see the newest from films like We’re the Millers, Kick-Ass 2, The Counselor, Hercules: The Thracian War, Captain Phillips, Third Person, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, All is By My Side, and I, Frankenstein.
Rawson Marshall Thurber’s (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) upcoming comedy We’re the Millers released a lot of photos. I’ve attached some of the best ones here. The movie, which stars Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston (both of Horrible Bosses), releases August 7th. It is about a group of characters that pretend they’re a family to smuggle drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border. (Source: Collider)
Also releasing a bunch of photos was the upcoming superhero-comedy Kick-Ass 2. Returning Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy), and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad), it follows the 2010 hit Kick-Ass. Jim Carrey joins the growing cast and Jeff Wadlow (Never Back Down) takes over the directing duties for the movie that’ll reach theaters August 16th.
More photos for Ridley Scott’s (Prometheus) The Counselor also surfaced. The movie has potentially the best cast of the year with big names like Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem (Skyfall), Cameron Diaz, and Penelope Cruz (Vanilla Sky). The movie, which releases October 25, is about a lawyer that gets involved in drug trafficking. (Source: Allocine)
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tweeted a photo from Hercules: The Thracian War that basically just shows a bunch of soldiers. Set to debut July 25, 2014, “The Rock” will be joined by Tobias Santelmann (Kon-Tiki) in a story about the famous demigod and the King of Thrace (John Hurt). (Source: Twitter)
The second Somali pirate movie of the year (check out A Hijacking if you get a chance), in Paul Greengrass’ (The Bourne Ultimatum) Captain Phillips, will open the New York Film Festival (NYFF) before its theatrical run on October 11. Starring Tom Hanks, the historical drama looks to be an exciting tale. A few photos arrived with the announcement of the NYFF premiere which you can now check out above. (Source: IndieWire)
The first still for acclaimed screenwriter Paul Haggis’ (Million Dollar Baby) Third Person was sent out earlier this week. Starring Liam Neeson (The Grey) and Oz The Great and Powerful’s James Franco and Mila Kunis, the film was announced as a Toronto International Film Festival attendee. A regular release date is still to be determined.
Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, a remake of the 1947 movie of the same name, released three photos. Being compared to Life of Pi (a dangerous comparison in my mind), the movie is also based on a short story by James Thurber. Stiller directs and stars in the picture, but he’s helped out by Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) and Sean Penn (Milk). You can see the movie Christmas Day. (Source: Empire)
All is By My Side, another Toronto International Film Festival movie, gave us the first look at Andre 3000 (of the music duo “Outkast”), who will play the iconic Jimi Hendrix. Looking at the picture (and knowing his musical talents), Andre 3000 seems like a great fit. He also has acting experience (Four Brothers, Semi-Pro). The movie based on Hendrix’s pre-fame days doesn’t have a theatrical release, but you can expect that to change soon. John Ridley (Showtime’s Barbershop) is the director. (Source: Moviefone)
Finishing things out is Lionsgate’s I, Frankenstein. Starring Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Yvonne Strahovski (Showtime’s Dexter), the Frankenstein adaptation recently made it to Comic-Con and released a photo. The still features both Eckhart and Strahovski. Stuart Beattie (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) directs the picture set to release January 24, 2014. (Source: Collider)
