Clip Mania: Elysium, 2 Guns, We’re The Millers, and More
In a crowded week of clips, I’ll be attaching the newest for the movies Elysium (2), 2 Guns (5), We’re the Millers (5), Jobs (2), Kick-Ass 2 (1), Gravity (2), The Spectacular Now (1) and Nymphomaniac (1).
Make sure to look at this week’s trailers, photos, posters, and news, too.
The two newest clips for Neill Blomkamp’s (District 9) Elysium surfaced this week. Adding to last week’s, there is a significant amount of footage online for the approaching sci-fi movie. The first clip, titled “He’s Awake,” shows star Matt Damon as he wakes from some procedure. The second clip, titled “Undocumented Ships Inbound,” shows a ship trying to make it from Earth to the uptopic Elysium space habitat. The full movie release August 9th.
If you are considering seeing 2 Guns, you might want to check out the five clips above. None of them highlight the action part of the movie. In fact, not a single bullet is shot in all five clips combined. However, you do get to see a lot of Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg’s chemistry. There’s also a healthy dose of Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol) in the clips. Baltasar Kormákur’s (The Deep) served as director.
Getting ready for an August 7th release, 5 clips also went viral for Rawson Marshall Thurber’s (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) comedy We’re the Millers. If you just view the clips, you’ll get a pretty good understanding of the plot. The first clip shows Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses) trying to convince a stripper (Jennifer Aniston) to play his wife. In the second clip, it shows Sudeikis’ fake family trying to get back into the U.S. with a drug-filled RV. The third, fourth, and fifth clips are less plot-driven and more laugh-driven (or attempts at laughs). Check them all out above.
Continuing with their Instagram marketing, Jobs released two new clips via Instagram this week. Titled “Jobs on Problem Solving” and “Jobs on Recruiting,” they continue to give us a look at Ashton Kutcher’s portrayal of the Apple innovator. The movie is set for limited release August 16th. It’s directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote).
A fresh new clip, this one featuring Jim Carrey, came online for Kick-Ass 2. Jeff Wadlow’s (Never Back Down) follow-up to 2010’s Kick-Ass is set to release August 16th as well. The clip also features the reunion between Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Battle Guy (Clark Duke). Chloe Grace Moretz (Hugo) isn’t featured in the clip but returns as a star.
Two extended clips for Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming Gravity came online, too. Both highlight a very eerie possibility – being stranded in space without communication back to Earth. The movie stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and releases October 4th. If you read my Comic-Con panel summary, you know the footage I saw was pretty breathtaking (like these clips).
James Ponsoldt’s (Smashed) The Spectacular Now comes out this weekend as well. Although it’s only available in limited release, I’d suggest keeping your eyes open for the movie. A clip, titled “First Kiss,” shows the awkward, but still charming, nature of Sutter (Miles Teller) and Aimee’s (Shailene Woodley) relationship. Take my word for it – it’s just one of the many great scenes in the movie.
Lars von Trier (Melancholia) is back at it with Nymphomaniac and a new clip is available. It features the nymphomaniac (Charlotte Gainsbourg) of the story, but it more notably gives us a look at Shia LaBeouf (Transformers). The drama doesn’t have a U.S. release date yet, but it is expected in early 2014.
Alright that wraps up this week’s Clip Mania. Check back next Friday for the next edition.
