Poster Mania: Ender’s Game, Thor: The Dark World, and More
Hey folks, just another Poster Mania for you. Today, I’ve got a poster each for Ender’s Game, Thor: The Dark World, Lone Survivor, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Don Jon, and Jayne Mansfield’s Car. Also, I’ve attached four pretty cool alternative posters for Short Term 12.
For yesterday’s trailers, follow this link. Enjoy!
The highly-anticipated adaptation of Ender’s Game released a final poster before its November 1st release. Although I have reservations about how it can (or will be) pulled off, I’m still looking forward to it. Directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the movie stars Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Harrison Ford, and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit).
In the most-bang-for-your-buck poster of the week, Marvel’s next superhero movie, Thor: The Dark World, takes the top prize. It has a lot of characters, plenty of weaponry, and some mystery packed into one poster. The movie, in a way, rivals Ender’s Game with a November 8 release date. It’s directed by Alan Taylor (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and returns Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston.
Although Peter Berg’s last film, Battleship, didn’t bode well with finances, he’s still a sought after draw. His next film, Lone Survivor, features a more marketable star (Mark Wahlberg) with some thrilling source material. Based on the true story of a doomed mission in Afghanistan, the movie will open in limited release December 27 before a wide release January 10 (a la last year’s Zero Dark Thirty). Check out the new poster above (and there will be new pictures tomorrow). (Source: Collider)
Another poster for the upcoming historical drama titled Lee Daniels’ The Butler surfaced earlier this week. I’d be surprised if the film wasn’t a surefire hit based on the trailers I’ve seen so far. The newest poster is pretty cool, too. Starring Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Oprah Winfrey, and a whole bunch of other big names (highlighted in the poster), the Oscar hopeful releases August 16th. (Source: Fandango)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut has slipped my mind recently. However, Don Jon did get my attention with a new poster. Available above, it shows the three main stars – Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, and Julianne Moore (Children of Men). The movie will be available September 27th. (Source: IMP Awards)
Speaking of actor-directors, Billy Boy Thorton directed a movie last year that is still waiting for a release date. Titled Jayne Mansfield’s Car, the movie is a period drama starring Thorton, Robert Duvall (Apocalypse Now), Kevin Bacon, and Ray Stevenson (HBO’s Rome). Hopefully it releases soon, but until then, feast your eyes on the poster.
Perhaps best for last, I received four alternative posters for one of Sandrine’s favorite movies of the year, Short Term 12. The movie is about a twenty-something foster care worker (Brie Larson) and her boyfriend (John Gallagher Jr.). The independent film will release in limited theaters August 23rd and is directed by Destin Cretton (I Am Not a Hipster)
Tune in next week for the next edition. Until next time…
