Trailer Round-Up: Ender’s Game, Thor: The Dark World, The Counselor, and More
This week in Trailer Round-Up, I’ve put together a list of highly-anticipated movies. In what could be the best week in terms of movies, you’ll see the newest trailers from Ender’s Game, Thor: The Dark World, The Counselor, a slightly different international trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Monuments Men, Captain Phillips, and Her.
Check them all out below…
Gavin Hood’s (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) Ender’s Game released yet another trailer. The gist of the movie is about the same in the trailer. The movie (and trailer) features Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Sir Ben Kingsley, and Harrison Ford. The movie, which I am really excited for, releases November 1st.
Speaking of excited, I am getting geared up for Thor: The Dark World as well. You can, too, by viewing the next trailer. As the final comic book movie of the year, the next Thor movie will have to compete against some decent movies. I personally didn’t care for the first Thor movie, so I’m hoping the November 8th movie makes up for it. The movie returns Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston.
I caught the newest trailer of The Counselor before my viewing of Elysium this weekend. Ridley Scott’s follow-up to Prometheus is going in a less science-fiction-y direction. Instead, Scott has taken a script by author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men) and added stars Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), Javier Bardem (Skyfall), Brad Pitt, and Vanilla Sky castmates Cameron Diaz and Penélope Cruz. The trailer sets up the plot so I urge you to check it out before its October 25 release.
Although it’s not much different than the other trailers we’ve seen, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire quietly released an international trailer. Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) took control of the franchise for Catching Fire and has arguably the best source material of the book series to work with. As the trailer points out, the film will take place after the events of last year’s film and shows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) fighting for her life and an impending revolution. Also returning Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson, the movie releases November 22nd.
George Clooney’s next directorial effort released the first trailer. Although it got bumped down this far, I’d suggest checking it out above. For plot, the movie is about a group of fogeys, such as Clooney, Bill Murray, and John Goodman, who are joined by Matt Damon to help protect some of the greatest pieces of art, culture, and history from the Nazi regime. We’ll all be able to see the full movie December 18th.
Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Ultimatum) is also preparing to release another movie. This one, titled Captain Phillips, releases a little earlier (October 11th). Another trailer, this one even more suspenseful, played in front of movies last weekend. Starring Tom Hanks as the title character, the trailer also gives us a glimpse of Catherine Keener (Capote).
Lastly, a full-length trailer for Spike Jonze’s (Adaptation) first film since Where the Wild Things Are went viral. Titled Her, the movie has a great cast that includes names like Joaquin Phoenix (The Master), Amy Adams (Man of Steel), and Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Her is described as a sci-fi romance film and will release November 20th. Check out the trailer if it sounds interesting!
Which trailer do you think is best? Or perhaps, which movie are you most excited to see?
